当宿の敷地内に自生している「むかご」です。
この実が土に落ちて、その落ちた中から腐らずに育ったものが「自然薯」と呼ばれます。
淡い期待を持って少し周りを少し掘ってみましたが全然無かったです（笑）。
むかごは炊き込みご飯で食べるのが多いですが、蒸かして食べるのも素朴な味わいがなかなか美味いです。
